RAPI & RDI Index Explained

RDI (Rapaport Diamond Index)

  1. An average of the top 25 categories from the Rapaport Price List (D IF – H VS2)

  2. Typically references 1.00ct but can be calculated for other sizes

  3. Not published regularly

RAPI (RapNet Diamond Index)

  1. Reflects actual asking prices on RapNet

  2. Based on the 10 best-priced GIA-graded diamonds, Rounds, D-H, IF-VS2, Spec 2 or better, in the top 25 highest categories (RDI)

  3. Covers sizes: 0.30ct, 0.50ct, 0.70ct, 1.00ct, 2.00ct, 3.00ct. The primary index is 1 carat size.

  4. Published daily on RapNet and in TradeWire

Valuing Diamonds Outside Standard List Ranges

Very Small Diamonds (<0.15ct)

  • Not typically listed or graded

  • Use the Price List as a guideline and apply discounts

  • Compare similar items on RapNet or consult with experienced traders or appraisers for fine-tuned evaluations

Very Large Diamonds (>10.99ct)

  • No Rapaport Price List due to rarity

  • Valuation based on auction results, market competition, or RapNet listings

Below the Color/Size Scale

  • No official price for diamonds below N color or 0.29ct

  • Traders often use the last available price and adjust the discount accordingly (i.e., you take the price for N color and use that as a base for colors below N).

Historical Price Data

  1. Available for purchase in the Rapaport Store

  2. Useful for audits, valuations, and insurance
